The property is a Thomas Telford designed former Parliamentary manse completed in March 1829.  The manse was in use until 1941 when the church was closed and has been owned by the current family since 1943.

Clachan Sands is a traditional crofting community situated approximately 6 miles from Lochmaddy and is located on the road to Berneray from where the ferry links the Uists to the Isle of Harris.
