Located on the croft assignation is a four bedroom dwelling house that would benefit from modernisation and upgrading.

Location:

The Island of Barra forms part of the Western Isles archipelago and is the second last inhabited island other than Vatersay to which Barra is linked by a causeway completed in 1991.

The coastline of Barra is made up of rocky inlets interspersed with wonderful white sandy beaches and offers some stunning scenery not to mention rare flowers and wildlife. The island measures approximately eight miles by five miles with its main road providing a full circuit around the island.  From the main road other minor roads lead off towards the scattered townships on the island where you will find a number of small craft outlets and cafes.  The main area of population on the island is Castlebay, named after Kisimul Castle which stands on a rocky outcrop in the bay.  Castlebay is home to the main services and facilities on the island including a primary and secondary school, community centre (with swimming pool), supermarket, post office, hospital, doctors and dental surgeries as well as a number of hotels and cafes, which in the summer months are normally busy with tourists.  Castlebay is also the main ferry terminal for the island with the Caledonian MacBrayne ferry making twice daily visits in the summer time from Oban, in the winter time the ferry runs a more restricted service.  A further smaller ferry operates from Ardmhor on Barra to Eriskay and regular scheduled flights operate from Glasgow and Benbecula with the famous cockle sands being used as a runway when tides permit.

Garrygall is about a mile from the centre of Castlebay.

Croft Assignation:

The croft at 8 Garrygall represents a rare opportunity to acquire the assignation of a croft tenancy on the Isle of Barra extending to approximately 1.71 hectares on which there is a four bedroom dwelling house.

There is also a detached shed.

The croft is in two separate strips of land joined by common grazings but separated by the A888.

The croft comes with a share in the Garrygall common grazings.

Interested parties are advised to consult a solicitor specialising in Crofting Law.

The current annual rental for the croft is £10.00 (although this may be subject to review).
